The short answer

Two GP practices have surgeries in Petersfield town: The Grange Surgery (The Causeway, GU31 4JR) and Swan Medical Group (Swan Surgery, Swan Street, GU32 3AB). The NHS find a GP search for the town-centre postcode GU32 3JE, run on 5 October 2026, also lists practices in Liss and Liphook as covering that postcode. You register with a practice whose catchment area includes your home, so check your own postcode rather than assuming. We do not say which practices are taking new patients, because that changes; the NHS service shows the current status.

The two Petersfield practices

The Grange Surgery, The Causeway, Petersfield, Hampshire, GU31 4JR. Phone 01730 267722. Website: thegrangesurgery.org.uk. The NHS profile lists reception hours of 8am to 8pm on Monday and 8am to 6:30pm Tuesday to Friday, closed at weekends (last confirmed on the profile 21 April 2026). The practice says appointments can be made during opening hours (8am to 6:30pm) by phone, or online if you are registered for Patient Access or the NHS App (appointments page).

Swan Medical Group, Swan Surgery, Swan Street, Petersfield, Hampshire, GU32 3AB. Phone 01730 264011. Website: swanmedicalgroup.co.uk. The group says it is available for urgent clinical matters Monday to Friday, 8am to 6:30pm (urgent appointments page). Its NHS profile reception hours were last confirmed in November 2022, so use the practice's own page for current times. The group also runs surgeries in Liss and Liphook, which the NHS search lists separately.

How to register

The NHS says everyone in England can register with a GP surgery for free, and that you can register with most surgeries online. The usual route is to search by postcode on find a GP, choose a surgery that offers online registration and fill in the form, which the NHS says takes about 15 minutes for each person. You should usually be told within 5 days of the surgery getting your details, though it may take longer (NHS: register with a GP surgery). You can also register using a paper form at the surgery.

The Grange Surgery says its online form needs no proof of address, ID or NHS number and that paper forms are still available (new patients page). Swan Medical Group has its own online registration form and a postcode checker for its catchment area, and says registration can take up to a few weeks (register page).

Catchment and out-of-area registration

Most people must register near where they live. The NHS find a GP results split practices into those that "cover your postcode" and those that do not but "might let you register anyway", and flag "Accepts out of area registrations" on some. Your catchment depends on your exact postcode, so run the search with your own. Some villages around Petersfield, such as West Meon, appear in the NHS results as nearby practices that did not cover the town-centre postcode we tested.

Checking whether a practice is taking patients

Each NHS practice profile and search result shows a status line on registration. We have deliberately not repeated it here: it can change from week to week. Check the practice's NHS profile on the day, and if you are told a list is closed, try another practice covering your postcode.

Online services and out of hours

Both NHS profiles link to online health and prescription services and the NHS App. When your surgery is closed, the NHS says 111 can direct you to the best place to get help, which may include an out-of-hours GP (NHS: when to use 111). Swan Medical Group tells patients to call 111 or 999 or visit an Urgent Treatment Centre for urgent matters outside its hours. Petersfield's own centre is covered in our urgent care guide.
